There were no new virus-related deaths in the latest COVID-19 numbers out Thursday from health officials in Oneida and Herkimer Counties.
Oneida County has reported no deaths in six of the last seven days. The county did report two on Wednesday, the 398th and 399th since the pandemic began. There were 44 new positive test results, as the county continues to close in on 20,000 cases since last March (19,788).
The 44 new cases was a slight uptick, after the county had seen an average of about 35 cases per day over the last week.
Active cases in the county declined for the ninth day in a row, down just a handful from the previous day, now at 451. Total hospitalizations among county residents declined from 27 to 25, the fewest in more than four months.
Again No Local COVID Deaths, New Cases Remain Low
Make if five straight days that Oneida County has gone without a COVID-19 death.
As we mentioned in Monday s report, five consecutive days is the longest the county has gone without a virus-related fatality since Halloween. There were 32 new COVID positive cases added in the latest report on Tuesday. To date, Oneida County has seen 19,712 lab-confirmed cases of the virus.
The active case total was down slights from the previous day, falling from 495 to 484. Monday s report marked the first time in nearly four months that county s active case number dipped below 500.

There were no COVID deaths reported in Oneida or Herkimer counties in the latest update from health officials on Wednesday.
Oneida County continues to see fewer and fewer virus-related deaths. Wednesday s update marked the third time in the last five days the county didn t lose a life to coronavirus. The county did add 45 new cases.
Oneida County s seven day average for new cases per day in is in the mid-forties. That s a slight uptick from last week, where the seven-day average dropped into the 30 - but still a far cry from the area s peak that saw most days with a new case total above 300.
New cases of COVID-19 in Oneida and Herkimer counties remain relatively low, but Oneida County have five more deaths tied to the virus, according to numbers released on Wednesday.
The five most recent deaths did not include any nursing home residents. Except for one single day, Oneida County has reported one or multiple coronavirus deaths everyday since the day before Thanksgiving. Since last March, the county has lost 371 residents to the disease.
There were 69 new positive cases added in the last day. Meanwhile, the number of active cases in the county and the number of county residents hospitalized with the virus dropped again Wednesday.
