Maharashtra today logged eight more cases of Omicron with seven being reported from Mumbai and one from the metropolitan's outskirts - Vasai Virar. All but one patient were vaccinated. None of them has any history of international travel.
With this, the eastern part of the state has got its first Omicron case, with the remaining being in Mumbai (5), Pune (11), Thane (1), with the state tally going up to 18 in the past 8 days.
Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Chandigarh on Sunday reported the first case of Omicron variant.
Reports said Maharastra and Karanataka also recorded Omicron cases today taking the total cases of the new variant to 37.
Kerala's health minister said the person who was infected had arrived from the UK. Health minister Veena George said the person had tested positive for the virus on December 8 in Kochi.
