There’s not that many A-list stars in 2020’s list of the best leading actors. Some of you might see that as a negative, but I’m all about great performances no matter who they come from. The fact that most of the big blockbusters got pushed into 2021 means that some lesser-known names got a chance to shine. This straitened year of cinema coined some new stars, and may they make our movies better when we emerge from this plague.

1. Live Aid Vermont musician Chad Hollister is known for his feel-good pop-rock tunes. The singer-songwriter brings his signature sense of positivity to a livestream concert supporting working musicians facing financial difficulties. Acoustic folk artist Ryan Montbleau, indie-pop musician Francesca Blanchard, members of the Vermont Symphony Orchestra and others join Hollister for VT Sounds A Bash to Bring Back Vermont Music, broadcast from ZenBarn in Waterbury at 8 p.m. on Friday, January 22. All proceeds go to the New England Musicians Relief Fund.

The worst films are ones that have viewers wondering either how the project in question got made, or why the talent involved made it. Perhaps expectation exceeded outcome. There were plenty of bad films in 2020, but few were more jaw-droppingly awful or as excruciating as these half-dozen clunkers. These films are not even so-bad-they re-good. They took ambitious risks that not only didn t deliver but tested the patience and goodwill of most viewers who saw them.

Guy Ritchie wants viewers to appreciate his oh-so-clever style because he simply does not have any substance to back it up. The Gentlemen continues to showcase his crass flash, featuring more sophomoric antics than prankish teenage schoolboys. Ritchie creates obvious and lame jokes out of the Vietnamese name, Phuc in one of the film s many racist moments, and he thinks bestiality is hilarious. Ritchie can t direct traffic much less an action sequence, because The Gentlemen features a truly sl
