The housing market is exploding, but it s not alleviating any pressure,
Builders in the Oklahoma City area started more houses through April than in the first third of any year going back at least a decade: 2,202, a jump of 21.6% compared with the first four months of 2020, according to Dharma Inc. s Builder Report.
That s even with skyrocketing prices for lumber and other materials, and disruptions in supply distribution.
And there s still a house shortage that may be here to stay awhile, just an 18-day inventory, according to the Oklahoma City Metro Association of Realtors. That s counting only homes listed with Realtors, not sold directly by builders or owners.
There were a number of notable occurrences in the real estate world recently.
They include the listing of a Bricktown entertainment center, the sale of a house as part of a college fundraiser, the re-development of a 117,000-square-foot home decor store that used to house a Hobby Lobby, and more.
Here is a roundup of some real estate odds and ends.

A sharp rise in the cost of lumber amid shortages has builders scrambling to cope as municipalities like Norman keep an eye on outstanding capital projects.
The City of Norman has several ongoing bond and quality-of-life improvement projects it will continue to finish and launch as part of Norman Forward, the sales tax initiative adopted by voters in 2015.
According to the National Association of Home Builders, the price of lumber is up 180% and has jumped the price of residential construction to $24,000 higher compared to April 2020. Other materials like windows and industrial grade appliances, which are made overseas, also are in short supply.
