Subscriber only A Richmond Valley councillor is calling for urgent action to fix two dangerous intersections in Casino. At tonight s council meeting, Stephen Morrissey will put forward a motion raising concerns about traffic and pedestrian safety along Centre St (the Bruxner Highway) at the Richmond and Canterbury St intersections. He says roundabouts should be installed and a safer pedestrian crossing facility is needed at the Centre/Barker Street intersection as a matter of urgency . Cr Morrissey wants the council to write to Regional Transport and Roads Minister, Paul Toole, Clarence MP Chris Gulaptis and Page MP Kevin Hogan about the issue.

Subscriber only Beach hoons are on notice to behave or the entire stretch of beach between Evans Head and Ballina could be closed to four-wheel drives. In what has been described as a compromise that will put the fate of the beach in the community s hands, Richmond Valley Council has voted to close only one of its access points at this stage. Ballina Shire Council closed the Patchs Beach access at South Ballina last year. It s understood work is continuing to close other access points which are managed by National Parks and Wildlife Service and Crown Lands. In the meantime, Richmond Valley Council will close Boundary Creek.

It’s a day that signifies love for so many.
But on Valentine’s Day, one group is continuing to call out the tragically high proportion of girls and women who experience abuse or violence throughout their life.
Gabrielle Griffin is one of organisers of the V Day flashmob protest, to be held at Byron Bay’s Main Beach from 6.30am on Sunday, February 14.
Ms Griffin said the annual event was first organised by Byron Shire’s citizen of the year, Zenith Virago, nine years ago.
“It all was started by Eve Ensler, who wrote The Vagina Monologues,” Ms Griffin said.
