Tenterfield Show brings best of the country to town

Premium Content Subscriber only Only the Spanish flu has ever halted the Tenterfield Show and nothing was going to stop it being a roaring success in 2021. Packed with activities, horseshows, rodeos and award competitions, the Tenterfield show was enjoyed by 3,000 strong crowd throughout the day. Show secretary Robyn Murray said organisers were grateful to the hardworking volunteers. We condensed the show from two days to one this year to put less pressure on our volunteers with the COVID marshalling … there were crowds here from the moment the day opened and they stayed until the end of the night, she said.

Bushfire recovery funds should be based on need not greed

Premium Content When its comes to dishing out bushfire recovery money, politicians should remain colour blind. Labor shouldn t just see red, Liberals shouldn t just see blue, and Greens should represent every colour under the rainbow, not just green. The Berejiklian Government is rightly having the blowtorch applied to its belly over its handling of the Bushfire Local Economic Recovery fund. Every fair-minded person would probably assume this money is dished out fairly on a needs basis. The neediest areas, after the horrendous 2019-20 bushfire season, are pretty obvious for everyone to see. While plenty of infrastructure burnt down and needs to be replaced, there s also still plenty of people living in caravans and tents waiting for money to flow.

Fenwick House sells for a staggering amount at auction

Premium Content Subscriber only A historic piece of Ballina real estate has been snapped up for an enormous sum over the weekend. The 135-year-old Fenwick House has been sold for $3.78 million at auction over the weekend to one lucky buyer. Damien Smith, from Ray White Byron Bay, said the sale was a terrific result and a potential record for the area. The auction itself had three registered bidders and we ended up successfully negotiating with one of those bidders a sale … which I believe is a record for Ballina for a house, he said. That s a great result, it s been a good campaign with lots of interest and obviously not many mansions come up that you can legitimately call mansions.

Well known locals, Richard and Judy Edwards, known for their many years running Pancho Villa at Lennox Head have sadly lost their home and possessions in a fire in the early hours of Monday morning, she posted.

Will popular outdoor leisure show go ahead?

Premium Content Subscriber only THE popular Outdoor Leisure Show, which is run by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service as its main fundraising event, will not go ahead this year. This is the second year in a row the event has been cancelled. Last year s event was cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but there were plans to bring it back for 2021 at the Bangalow Showgrounds. The Outdoor Leisure Show usually has more than 100 exhibitors and manufacturers from all over Australia. It was the largest event of its kind in regional NSW. However the service s regional marketing manager, Zeke Huish, said a difficult decision had to be made.
