Nino MacDonald addressed Byron Shire Council at its meeting on Thursday to encourage it to support calls for a memorial bench to acknowledge the contributions of his late wife, Judy. During the 18 years that she was actively engaged in the life of the shire she became well known for the drive, energy, commitment and enthusiasm that she brought to whatever undertaking was at hand, Mr MacDonald said. He said the proposed location of Heritage Park in Mullumbimby would be very appropriate for a bench to be installed in Judy s memory.

Subscriber only The North Coast community certainly hasn t been silent on plans for a new Netflix reality show, Byron Baes.
More than 8600 people (and climbing) had put their name to a petition calling for the show, to focus in local influencers , to be scrapped at the time of writing.
Byron s mayor doesn t want it, a member of one of the shire s most successful bands has had strong words about the proposal and many paddled out at Main Beach to call for it to be cancelled on Tuesday. All this before the show has even been produced for the streaming service.
Byron mayor Simon Richardson has also weighed in and is expected to bring an item before the councilâs meeting this Thursday denouncing the production.
Sally Wategoâs family are from the local area.
âI really donât like seeing whatâs been happening to the town,â she said.

âI just think the town doesnât need any more promoting.
âThereâs a lot of issues in this town with real estate prices (and) homelessness.
