The N.C. High School Athletic Association softball state championship series are set to take place this weekend.
Due to the lack of collegiate venues available as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, the events will be held at Davie County High and North Davidson High on Friday and Saturday.
The eight qualifying teams have spent the last two weeks battling through their respective regional brackets on their way to this opportunity for a title.
Here are some of the players who helped their teams break through in this shortened season.

Chapel Hill, N.C. The N.C. High School Athletic Association has released the schedule for this weekend s softball state championship series.
Softball state championships are a best-of-three series. Games will be played on Friday and Saturday.
Friday will consist of game one for each series, Saturday will be a double-header if three games are needed.
The 1A and 2A state championships will be played at Davie County High School, while the 3A and 4A state championships will be played at North Davidson High School.

A fundraiser to help Gavin Hill s family with expenses related to his treatment at Levine Children s Hospital in Charlotte will take place from 8-11 a.m. Saturday, May 15 at Center United Methodist Church in Welcome. There will be a pancake and sausage breakfast, silent auction with more than 100 items and entertainment. Cost of the breakfast is by donation only. The church is located at 186 Center Church Road.

Painting has been a part of Brian Edwards life since he was a 9-year-old in Janet Griggs classroom at Northwest Elementary.
From the day his fourth-grade teacher praised his drawing of a random face during a class art project, he was hooked on being creative. It might seem odd that a self-described Davidson County country boy who also loves to hunt and display his taxidermied trophies on his home s walls is passionate about drawing and painting. After all, the art world doesn t have too many camouflage-wearing painters who work at a major tobacco company.
While painting has been a love for most his life, it is not the only love, nor the strongest love he has experienced.
