Park Police Ordered evacuations of the west lawn of the capitol where folks are gathered for tonights concert, as well as folks near the Washington Monument and put into play Operation Safe haven encouraging folks to seek shelter at a museum or metro stop. Organizers cleared the field brought the performers off the stage and spectators into the stands. That lasted, we were told, half an hour, 40 minutes, and then the concert resumed and it is continuing as we speak. People are still streaming in coming from the metro. They have looked forward to this concert, the 20th anniversary of the foo fighters and they are celebrating on americas birthday. Out. Someone reported hearing gunshots inside building one. Thats the iconic building for this facility with the tower. Now, everyone on the ground of the sprawling campus was ordered to shelter in place and teams from the military began a systemic search of building one, assisted by some Montgomery County police teams as well. Now, all 20 stories had to be searched. As you might imagine that did not happen quickly. It took almost four hours for shermgt in place to be the allclear being given. It turned out to be nothing, but no one is criticizing the person who made the call, as we hear from Montgomery County Police Captain paul starks. Given the times we live in and this facility we wanted to ensure that while we didnt have any indication at the time, except for the call, we want to be able to set up a perimeter and make things safe for the thousands of people on this campus.
