Thats the tower in the front of the complex. Its a prominent building that can be seen as you drive by on Rockville Pike. Reporter many of the folk wes spoke with were leaving gate two behind me here at 2 00 when they were given the allclear, of course, very relieved this ordeal was over and very grateful to Law Enforcement for their, aggressive response. Your attention. Your attention. All personnel are directed to shelter in place. Reporter this is not the scene anyone wants to walk into when trying to head to work or make an appointment. Some reports of a possible active shooter but theres nothing confirmed yet. Reporter questions looming around Walter Reed Medical Center of whether or not a shooter was inside. Some employees received text messages. Others were waiting to hear from people they knew inside. But mostly, everyone had a sense of calm even though they didnt have much information about what was happening. What ive learned is how wonderful the reaction is the security personnel. So its very comforting. Reporter what was even more comforting was when the allclear came at around 2 00. Resume all operation. Reporter when those on lockdown were able to leave and go home. We hear that theres an active shooter alert, told to get inside under cover get down that whats we did a lot of calm because a whole bunch of military veteran, combat veterans so, we are all kind of all of us have experience. Reporter while many veterans say they found security in their own experiences others say they turn to a higher power and believe that whatever was happening was under control. No. I have strong faith. And do you what youre supposed to do and if things happen, then they happen. Reporter yeah and one woman we spoke with said you know, it might have been an inconvenience but it also shows that people are aware of their surroundings. If they see something or hear something, they are saying something and thats precisely what Law Enforcement want to get across to people, is that importance of letting them know if they see something suspicious. Now, coming up at 6 00, we spoke with a woman who was inside during the lockdown. She detail what is that experience was like. Wendy . Thank you. We have to basically evacuate all the hallways, turn off the light, put all the patients and personnel in safe areas, safe zones and lock up all the lights. Contact our family about whats happening. The scare at the National NavalMedical Center comes just days after a similar lockdown at the Washington Navy yard. At that installation, a worker reported hearing a gunshot thursday about 7 30 in the morning and Police Ordered everyone at the navy yard to shelter in place. Teams combed the campus. Police arrested jasper spires for the deadly stabbing of Kevin Sutherland. They say that spires attacked sutherland on a train saturday afternoon while the train was approaching the Noma Gallaudet station. New at 5 00, a maryland state trooper accused of forcing a woman to perform a sex act on him. Investigators tell us officer brian tucker agreed to pay the woman for sex but during that enkoirngten encounter, the woman says tucker forced her at gunpoint to engage in other act. He has been charged with first degree sex offense and a handgun charge. The gun in question not the troopers duty weapon. It is a sad case that so many of us have been following and tonight the maryland boy who was beaten for sneaking a piece of birthday cake has died. 9yearold jack garcia was in Childrens NationalMedical Center with injuries to his back, his legs and his stomach. Hagerstown police say wilson handcuffed the little boy last week for eating cake without permission inside the apartment where he lived. We are basically told that based on the evidence that they had at that time, based on the charges they could bring against him based on that evidence, and the fact he had a minimal criminal record, the they let him go he was allowed to go until the next court appearance. But still, a lot of people have a lot of questions about this why this man was still out on the street. Now, we are told the patrol officers from the Fourth District arrested spires again this afternoon, in the 4800 block of Georgia Avenue north best. Its not clear why police were able to identify and release a picture of spires just hours after the fatal stack, which happened saturday after near at metros know ma station. The victim, 24yearold Kevin Sutherland is a graduate of American University who had brief cubs wouldly worked on capitol hill. We are told the police think they also have the gun used in this shooting. A Prince Georges County teacher is accused of calling a student a little osama bin laden. Now a Civil Rights Group is calling for a federal investigation. The teacher at Benjamin Tasker middle school in bowie was heard saying, you terrorist you little owe sam marks you have a bomb in your locker. The first time anything happened like this. Reporter according to Prince Georges County police, the man who tried to enter this home inside this gated community knew the homeowner. Police say the two had been involved in a romantic relationship. This is a very Quiet Community and something thats very unusual. What did you hear this morning . We spoke with someone by phone who was inside of the home at the time of the shooting. He said he heard the gunshot and then heard the suspect yell out, you shot me. You shot me. The homeowner cried out i didnt mean to. Stop breaking into my house. The suspect has been identified as craig corbin jar of baltimore. The shooting happened just before 3 a. M. Core bip was found dead on the property. You have the right to defend your home. People cant just go around busting in windows with screw drivers. Reporter will theres not word if the homeowner will face charges at this time. He is not in police custody. I dont want our home owners to think this it is something they need to concern themselves. Some neighbors near the northwest d. C. Mansion where five people were murdered now want that house to be torn down. People who live along Woodland Drive here behind the cathedral say what happens to the savopoulos family is still taking a toll on they will. Many children walk past the house to get to school every morning. Their parents say the sight of the mansion is a constant reminder of the tragedy. So far news4 has no indication that the home will be condemned. A deadly shooting on a San Francisco pier is refocus the debate on immigration policy on whats called deportation sanctuary. The alleged gunman, fran cisco sanchez, admitted to killing kate steinly. He says it was an accident. Inspectors found no Building Code violations when they checked that deck but even wellmade decks can have problems.
