those three, only one is widely regarded as a disaster by virtually all sides here, that s the third one. i think we ought to be skeptical of anyone suggesting we will not strike a deal under any circumstances, or this is an absolute red line that we will never cross. bianna, it s interesting, lindsey graham there s a legitimate question about what happens to lindsey graham. but lindsey graham says you better start telling us what you re for instead of what you re against. i m not sure he ll get what he wants on that. maybe we ll see lynd si graham golfing with the president again and they ll be buddy-buddy. that goes back to the heart of theish yush. even mitch mcconnell says the president has to tell us where he stands on this issue. when you talk about the daca deadline, this is a self-imposed deadline. to not seemingly have a plan as to how he views this all playing out i think is mind-boggling for many republicans. on the other hand, though, by him sort of sitting out and no
house, you ve been all over the board. you haven t been a reliable partner, and the senate s going to move. he s obviously, together with a lot of his colleagues, republicans and democrats, frustrated. he might not be invited on the golf course any time soon with the president. i think he is frustrated because he believed that at that open meeting where trump said i m going to take the heat, i ll sign whatever you bring me, he said a bill of love. and lindsey graham came out after that and said this was the man i know. this is the man i played golf with. well, i think he may have been deluding himself to a great degree because that s not the man that we heard from during the shutdown or who said you have to have the wall or who was listening to general kelly. but this is a perfect example that the president of the united states does not know what he believes about this issue. this is a hard issue. he doesn t know it. he habsn t been a governor.
especially after his humiliating defeat that if there s no wall, there s no daca. he goes on. but the president, we don t know what he wants. that point has been emphasized over and over again. the senate could get a deal, has no implication on what passes the house. in part because they don t know what the president wants. so what is the biggest holdup here? well, i think we know what the president wants. if you look at what he said during the campaign, not just what he said but how he said it, and the vulgarrity, obscenity, rough talk recently and look at what people around him are saying because they didn t wander into the white house, these are his top advisers, and they can speak with authority, his chief of staff and so forth, and what they are saying is they want to put restrictions on legal immigration. they want to eliminate undocumented and want to do an enforcement at a level that we haven t seen before. to run raids, build a wall,
understand like rational and humane. schumer will withdraw that offer in the context of the start of negotiations. let s not be too cute or histrionic about this. there is a three-week window on this. it is going to require broad outlines of a deal that look like what was brought to the table three weeks ago before it was brought down by the president. if anything happens at all. it will be border security, including building a wall in portions. it will be a daca deal that probably at least gives legal status to the d.r.e.a.m.ers, if not full citizenship. you re talking about the pillars. the white house said that deal is dead. it is the matter of degree. going after steven miller is bad blood. that deal means more to the democrats than it does to the republicans. how do we know that? because he offered the wall. and that is a big give because it s a silly give.
