In the drama over the Supreme Court, my next guest will have a starring role. He is the chairman of the Senate Judiciary committee, where the confirmation fight over Ruth Bader Ginsburgs vacancy will play out. He has had this frontrow seat in the last couple of nominations. I guess Supreme Court nominations are the super bowl for our business. This will be number four for me. Looking forward to it. You are in the drivers seat as the chairman of the committee. Every president has the right to pick replacements for the Supreme Court. History as a guide, there have been 19 Supreme Court nominations in an election year, where the president and the senate where the same party. 17 of 19 were confirmed. T
Decades. Her class lasts about an hour. Today were going to talk about topic 18 which is Southeast Asian refugee migrations. If youve been following the news, i imagine, you like me, have found it difficult to ignore the topic of refugees. This is an image of a refugees experience fleeing communist vietnam in 1975, but in many ways, it reminds us of images that we might see on the news today. Its hard to ignore the human stories of families perishing at sea, refugees are suffocating in meat trucks, theyre crowding onto leaky boats, theyre drowning the bodies of those who are unable to cross to safety, are washing up on mediterranean beaches. And refugees have been in the news for the past few years particularly related to the crisis in syria, but refugees are being uprooted by conflict all around the world. So were not just talking about refugees coming from syria, but from other wartorn regions. Especially in the past couple of years, its been difficult to ignore the public response t
Its taken me years to gather and find out what happened. Since its one of the most important factors in the watergate story, i think its important to get that history straight. And were going to try to do that in a very summaried fashion today. Before i start though, i would like to remind you that other president s did tape starting with Franklin Roosevelt who used a when they first went to talky movies and they had a sound track, he had a system that was put in the oval office that recorded. Im going to try a very, very quick sample. Let me go back. A quick sample of roosevelt taping. All right. You get a sample there. Let me give you a thats kind of an amazing when you think somebody today, when we have cell phones talking about the break through in that presidency of a walky talky that was so heavy they had to carry it on their back.
