India Canada relation: The allegations that India s government was involved in the killing of a Sikh separatist leader Nijjar in Canada have had little impact on India s diplomacy in the Indo-Pacific region, according to India s High Commissioner to Australia, Manpreet Vohra. While Australia initially called for an investigation, there has been no significant reaction from Southeast Asia or beyond.
Indian students have contributed to boosting the economy of Canada for several decades now, with just Punjabis investing billions in the country every year.
India has requested that Canada withdraw around 40 diplomats from the country by October 10, according to the Financial Times. The request comes after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused India of involvement in the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a designated terrorist in India and Khalistani activist. India has warned that diplomats who stay beyond the specified date may have their diplomatic immunity withdrawn. The Canadian foreign ministry and the Indian government declined to comment on the matter.
