Ramaphosa: No plan to suspend Nkoana-Mashabane over R118m land scandal

President Cyril Ramaphosa says he has no intention to suspend Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane in connection with the R118 million irregular expenditure incurred on the New York Pilot Project.
The Department of International Relations and Co-operation incurred the costs while she was the political head of the department.
Under her tenure, Dirco had planned to construct a building via a public private partnership that would include offices for the Permanent Mission to the United Nations and the South African Consulate in New York and apartments, among other things.

Johannesburg - The Democratic Alliance wants more officials of the Department of International Relations and Cooperationâs (Dirco) to face the music over the controversial R118 million New York Pilot Project.
The call came after Minister Naledi Pandor confirmed on Sunday that Dircoâs director-general (DG) Kgabo Mahoai was placed on precautionary suspension following the alleged purchase of non-existent land worth R118 million rand in the US.
In 2019, Parliament s international relations and co-operation portfolio committee discovered that taxpayersâ money was spent on the piece of land in New York. The committee went to New York to inspect the land only to find an old, dilapidated building.
