Push to improve Atlanta s security
Some Atlanta residents want more security cameras after a string of violent crimes.
ATLANTA - There are more cameras public and private monitoring what is going on in Atlanta than in most cities given the area covered.
But maintenance needs to be improved and some sections of town need additional cameras. You want to know what I hear from my constituents cameras, more cameras, said Joyce Sheperd, a veteran member of the city council.
Residents realize the growing importance of technology in helping law enforcement try to handle spikes in crime, especially violent behavior.

âNorthern South Park is the future of our community,â Brooke Sausser told the Teton County Board of County Commissioners on Monday. âIt will be home to future generations of Jacksonites. Itâs something we all have a stake in, and thatâs why I was shocked and disturbed to hear that the steering committee met in private.
âLetâs not let an unhealthy black box of secrecy be what makes this plan controversial,â she said. âWhat we need is a transparent, good faith, authentic public process.â
Tiki Archambeau Tiki Archambeau was working from home last June when a man having a mental health crisis wandered into his driveway in Burlington s Old North End. Archambeau called the police, who arrived quickly and helped peacefully resolve the situation. That evening, Archambeau used Front Porch Forum to thank the officers for their work. He didn t expect the backlash that came next. A neighbor charged that Archambeau s words of gratitude were tone-deaf amid a nationwide reckoning over policing. The person accused Archambeau of diminishing the racial justice efforts in Burlington, where activists had demanded cuts to the police force a call the six Progressive members of the city council had embraced.
