The low-pressure area over the South Andaman Sea and neighbouring South-East Bay of Bengal will intensity into a cyclonic storm around May 8, informed the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar.
Odisha has kept 17 NDRF, 20 ODRAF and 175 fire fighting teams on standby over the possible formation of a low-pressure area over the South Andaman Sea and areas adjoining the southeast Bay of Bengal, said Odisha Special Relief Commissioner.
"The low-pressure area will move northwest and intensify into a depression in the next 48 hours. However, some time is required for analysing the data before providing details on the possible path of the system," the weather office said.
The system is very likely to intensify into a depression in the next 48 hours and move in the north-westward direction, Umashankar Das, Senior Scientist, IMD told ANI.
