In early morning statement, Interior minister claims 11 abducted policemen have been released and remaining issues are under discussion
Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed early on Monday morning announced that supporters of the banned Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) had released 11 police officials that had been taken hostage by them in Lahore after discussions with representatives of the Punjab government.
“Talks have begun with the banned TLP and hopefully issues will be resolved with them,” he said in a video statement released on social media. He said that the “second round” of talks would commence after sehri, adding that the protesters had withdrawn to the interior of the Masjid Rehmatulil Alameen and ended a road blockade. Workers of outlawed Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) on Sunday stormed a police station near the party’s headquarters in Lahore and abducted half a dozen policemen including a deputy superintendent of police (DSP), in a fresh wave of violence sparked after arrest of the party chief last week.
“Today in the early morning, miscreants attacked Nawankot Police Station where Rangers and police officers were trapped inside the police station and [the] DSP Nawankot [Mohammad Umer Farooq was] kidnapped and taken [to] the [TLP] markaz, said a brief statement issued by the provincial police.

LAHORE/ISLAMABAD: Punjab Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar s aide Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan on Sunday said that miscreants armed with petrol bombs attacked the Nawankot Police Station, taking 12 policemen hostage and leaving six injured.
Sharing a statement by the Lahore police, she said that owing to the attack, in which the attackers used petrol bombs and bottles of acid, Rangers and police personnel were trapped inside the police station.
The miscreants held the deputy superintendent of police hostage at gunpoint, along with 11 other policemen, and drove them to their markaz (comprising a mosque and madrassah) nearby.
Aside from attacking the police station and kidnapping officials, the miscreants also stole an oil tanker carrying 50,000 litres of petrol, she said. Awan, confirming the same, said that any action taken was in self-defence and to rescue the police officers taken hostage.

Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid and Religious Affairs Minister Pir Noorul Haq Qadri will meet workers of the recently proscribed Tehreek-e-Labaik Pakistan (TLP) at 10pm tonight for the third round of talks, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said on Monday.
The first round of talks between the Punjab government and workers of the banned party took place yesterday after day-long clashes between TLP workers and law enforcers. The second round concluded earlier today, Chaudhry said in a tweet.
Punjab Governor Chaudhry Sarwar and provincial Law Minister Raja Basharat represented the government in the second round, according to Chaudhry.
