The residents of Shankar Nagar in Gottigere ward and MLA Layout, Kalena Agrahara in Begur ward are the worst affected due to the delay in completion of the UGD works that began last year. The residents are urging the authorities concerned to take measures to complete the work soon. They demand that authorities ensure proper disposal of waste and take measures to prevent sewage being let into roadside drains.
Kumar, a local business owner, emphasised, “The condition of the road affects not only commuters but also businesses in the area. Deliveries are delayed, and customers are deterred from visiting due to the poor state of the road.”
Pedestrians in Kaggadasapura are still having to navigate their way through the storm water drain (SWD) construction taking place in the vicinity, despite multiple requests having been made for a temp.
The residents pointed out that the combustion of waste releases harmful pollutants into the air, including particulate matter, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and others. This apart, inhaling the toxic fumes from burning garbage can cause a variety of health problems such as respiratory infections, asthma, and other respiratory diseases.
The residents pointed out the repercussions of this stagnant project has been felt throughout the community, impacting residents’ health, hindering daily activities, and severing vital connections for transport. The project was initiated before the elections, with the aim of mitigating flooding and improving drainage in the area. However, the work was left unfinished.
