Ministry of Social Development and Family Services provides Counselling Services
The Ministry of Social Development and Family Services (MSDFS) wishes to remind members of the public that counselling and psychosocial support are available for persons who may be feeling a bit overwhelmed and stressed, during these challenging times, as we are trying to decrease the number of positive COVID-19 cases and prevent the spread of the virus in the country.
The Ministry is cognizant that following the recent lockdown, persons have once again been asked to make sacrifices, which may have an impact on the most vulnerable.
As the Ministry continues to promote healthy and functional families, as the bedrock of our society, several efforts will be made, under the guide of the National Family Services Division, to collaborate and partner with various stakeholders to provide crisis intervention and make referrals where necessary, as family issues may arise due to the current stipulations. Minister of Social Development and Family Services Donna Cox visited Point Fortin on Monday, when she held several meetings and visits to various stakeholders in the area.
In a release, the ministry said Cox was accompanied by permanent secretaries Jacinta Bailey-Sobers, Sheila Seecharan, and deputy permanent secretary Vijay Gangapersad.
They met with Point Fortin MP Kennedy Richards Jr at Techier Road and Point Fortin Mayor Saleema Thomas at the borough corporation’s headquarters in Mahaica.
The meeting with Richards was “to discuss matters of mutual interest in an efforts, to ensure that no one is left behind.”

The Minister then paid a Courtesy Call on Her Worship, the Mayor of Point Fortin and Alderman Saleema Thomas. Here, discussions were held on the various initiatives being undertaken by the Ministry to service the burgesses of Point Fortin and environs in a more efficient and effective way, and through a more responsive delivery of social services.

Social development outreach helps Blanchisseuse residents

The Ministry of Social Development held an outreach initiative at the Blanchisseuse community centre on Feb 6 to help residents become aware of programmes and grants at their disposal. -
Blanchisseuse residents recently welcomed staff of the Ministry of Social Development and Family Services to their community centre, as part of an outreach initiative hosted by the Land and Settlement Agency (LSA).
Traditionally described as a fishing village, the community of Blanchisseuse has been especially affected by covid19 restrictions, which have limited opportunities for diverse income streams, particularly for villagers who are self-employed. As such, the Ministry of Social Development and Family Services was one of several state institutions and peer agencies invited by the LSA to promote its programmes, grants and services on February 6, in the interest of improving the lives of vulnerable individuals
