Helping…Empowering…Transforming lives, Ministry supports Blanchisseuse Community Outreach Port-of-Spain - Residents and well-wishers of the community of Blanchisseuse, enthusiastically welcomed staff of the Ministry of Social Development and Family Services to their community centre on Saturday February 6 th 2021, as part of an outreach initiative hosted by the Land and Settlement Agency (LSA). Traditionally described as a fishing village, the community of Blanchisseuse has been especially impacted by COVID-19 restrictions, which have limited opportunities for diverse income streams, particularly for villagers who are self-employed. As such, the Ministry of Social Development and Family Services was one of several state institutions and peer agencies invited by the LSA to promote its programs, grants and services, in the interest of improving the lives of vulnerable individuals and households within the area. Children s Authority makes statement on recent events surrounding social media app The Children’s Authority of Trinidad and Tobago is saddened by the reported deaths of two children which occurred within days of each other. The Authority’s Emergency Response Team was dispatched to determine the necessary support required for both families. In the death of a nine-year-old child, allegedly as a result of a TikTok challenge gone wrong, the Authority is calling on parents and guardians to be aware of popular trends on social media apps that are harmful to children. While the app TikTok has been used to share funny and informational content, there has been an increase of challenges that have been proven to be dangerous to children and in some instances caused death.

Family Services urges men to seek help and stop hurting our women Monday January 11, 2021 - It has been quite evident in the media recently that issues such as violence against women and girls seem to be topical in our society today. With the increase in awareness as it relates to gender based violence and the rise in Women’s Rights groups, one would think that the statistics would be on the decline. However, given our local scenario, we are witnessing the opposite. For this particular piece, we explored violence against women from a male perspective in an effort to understand why some men hurt women and how they can seek help in an effort to avoid bringing harm to potential victims.
