The October 13 ADM council decision to “please” striking employees by approving their long-anticipated salary increases, has come back to haunt the broke municipality.
The official Nahoon residence of Anele Ntsangani, mayor of the troubled Amathole district municipality, has been burgled, but the only items to have been stolen appear to be old council documents.

Cash-strapped Amathole district municipality’s development agency, Aspire, now has two CEOs, who simultaneously assumed duties on Tuesday. Akhona Tinta, who has been acting in the position, was permanently employed by the now dissolved Aspire board in September. Tinta confirmed that she had reported for duty as the CEO on Tuesday, but would not comment further.
Chwayita Stofile, a close ally of Amathole district municipality chief whip Nanziwe Rulashe, has been included in the interim board of the municipality’s development agency, Aspire. A report, to be tabled in a special council meeting on Tuesday, containing the names of the interim board members has been leaked to DispatchLIVE.
