When they met this week, Leavenworth city commissioners reviewed information from a draft of a new comprehensive plan for the city.
The City Commission hired the firm Shockey Consulting to put together what is being referred to as the Leavenworth 2030 comprehensive plan. The plan is intended to serve as a guide for development and redevelopment in the city.
Shelby Ferguson, project manager for the comprehensive plan, briefed commissioners Tuesday about the draft of the plan.
Commissioners offered feedback during the meeting. The final version of the plan will be presented to commissioners during a future meeting for approval.
Leavenworth mask order to expire at midnight
Lansing ordinance extended
The city of Leavenworth’s mask order is set to expire at the end of today.
The order, which requires people to wear face coverings in public spaces, was first approved by the Leavenworth City Commission during a Nov. 19 special meeting.
Commissioners voted Jan. 26 to extend the mask order by approving a new ordinance. At that time, the ordinance was set to expire at the end of March.
Earlier this month, commissioners discussed whether to extend the order again. No vote was taken, but a majority of commissioners voiced support for allowing the ordinance to expire with no further action.

Members of the Leavenworth City Commission are taking exception with recent comments from a county commissioner.
During a Leavenworth City Commission meeting Tuesday, Mayor Nancy Bauder discussed remarks County Commissioner Jeff Culbertson made last week.
Culbertson’s remarks were made to the Lansing City Council as he discussed a proposal for a bridge project to connect Eisenhower Road in Leavenworth County with Missouri 152 Highway in Platte County, Missouri.
Culbertson said he believed there was hesitancy to support the project among some Leavenworth city commissioners because they are worried about losing the Centennial Bridge and they are worried the new bridge could lead to Lansing or even Basehor outgrowing Leavenworth.
