Chennai, April 30 : Chennai has reported the highest Covid-19 test positivity rate at 20 per cent followed by Tirunelveli at 17 per cent, public health authorities said.
With 40 Covid-19 deaths on Thursday, Chennai has reported the highest number of deaths since March 2020 when the virus was first detected in the country.
The capital city Chennai has also the highest test positivity rate with 20 per cent or every 20 persons tested among 100 people turning positive. Tirunelveli recorded 17 per cent while Tuticorin has 16 per cent and Tenkasi reported 14.2 per cent test positivity rate.

At least 20 passengers coming to India from the U.K. tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday as the government issued a stringent new SOPs mandating RT-PCR tests at all airports for each traveller from the country and isolation in a separate institutional facility for positive cases in view of the new coronavirus strain.
NITI Aayog member V.K. Paul said the new strain of COVID-19 reported in the U.K. seems to increase transmissibility and infection rates but the mutation has so far not affected the severity, and case fatality of the disease.
