After university of pittsburgh students painstakingly removed layer after layer of sediment, evidence of human activity as early as 19,000 years ago was revealed. We visited meadowcroft, the National Historic landmark to learn the story from james adovasio, who has been leading Archaeology Research there for 50 years. We are currently 46 kilometers southwest of pittsburgh, pennsylvania in Washington County on the north bank of cross creek, which is a small tributary of the ohio river.
