We just upped the time, it was about a half hour delay but now that travel time registers that its 45 minutes heading across from the east bay. Now check out how it looks from underneath the overpass. Yeah, oh boy, what a mess here. You can see the damage done by the bed of the dump truck. It slammed into the embarcadero road overpass on southbound 101 at about 10 50 last night. Chp says the driver dropped off his load at the construction project, just up a little ways here on 101, and investigators say the most likely scenario is the driver just forgot to put down that bed and it crashed into the overpass, ripping it off the truck. Officers say he was taken to the hospital to be checked out for a possible broken nose. Crews are waiting on a Structural Engineer from caltrans to arrive on the scene from sacramento. The engineer will probably knock off some of the loose concrete to check out the extent of the damage, like if any rebar is broken. Best case scenario, the overpass is structurally sound. If theres major damage, though, they will need an emergency work order and get someone out there to replace the iron or steel girder holding up the bridge frame work. Reporter the only exception is if the owner obtained a permit for a full rebuild. But this week, the department of building inspection granted the owner only a partial rebuild. This report states the foundation and parts of the ground floor were not comprom e compromised and are in good shape. One person was taken to the hospital the night of the fire.
