Mumbai’s civic body, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s mayor Kishori Pednekar on Saturday called for a complete lockdown in the city considering the current Covid-19 situation, reported ANI.
Fresh curbs were implemented in the state from Wednesday for 15 days, with the state government imposing a ban on gatherings of more than four residents. Only essential services will be allowed to operate during this period. Restaurants can only offer take-aways and home delivery.

Mumbai is moving in only one direction- upwards! From 9090 cases on Saturday, Mumbai breached the 10,000-mark on Sunday, with the city reporting 11,163 new cases. This is the highest single-day spike since the pandemic began last year. The Maximum city is now host to 68,052 active cases, With 25 deaths, the total number of deceased patients now stands at 11,776. Out of the 25 deceased, 18 had co-morbidities. 13 patients were male and 12 were female. 3 deaths were between 40 to 60 years of age. 5263 patients recovered in the last 24 hours. The total number of patients cured/discharged so far stands at 3,71,628.
Second wave more severe
The second wave of infections in Mumbai is way more severe than the first wave back in September-October last year.
Even during its peak in October 2020, Mumbai then recorded its all-time high of just over 2,800 new cases.
In the second wave, its latest daily record is almost five-times as high.
Steep rise
The ongoing wave in India, especially Maharashtra, is seemingly more infectious than the one witnessed last year. At least that s what the numbers suggest.
Exactly a month ago on March 4, Mumbai had reported 1,104 new cases. It took just over 30 days for this figure to surpass the 11,000 mark.
