HASTINGS, NE. (jimmiepride.com) – The University of Jamestown softball team broke out of its recent offensive slump Saturday, scoring 31 runs on 38 hits in a sweep of Hastings College.
Jamestown won game one 11-6 then took game two by a final of 20-4 in five innings. UJ, now 29-11 overall and 12-6 in the GPAC, return home to host Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) University on Tuesday.
The Jimmies held a 2-0 lead going into the top of the fifth in the opener, then erupted for nine runs in the inning. Kassi Ward (JR/Olympia, Wash.) hit a two-run home run to deep left field, then Sydney Prussia (JR/Detroit Lakes, Minn.) homered to center. Following a Santina Zito (SO/Boise, Idaho) single, Katie Merchant (SO/South Haven, Minn.) smashed a two-run homer to left to make it 7-0. JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The University of Jamestown softball team was blanked at the dish on Saturday as Midland swept the doubleheader from the Jimmies 5-0 and 10-0 at Trapper Field.
The Jimmies picked up six total hits in game one and left 10 total runners on base against the Warriors. Midland was able to get to Kat Miska early on, scoring two runs in the second and two more in the sixth to wrap up game one. Morgan Geiszler was the on UJ player to record two hits in the first game.
Midland continued to put runs on the board in game two as three Warriors homered and Midland recorded 13 total hits. Katie Merchant only went 2 1/3 in the circle for Jamestown, allowing six earned runs and nine hits. The Jimmies tallied just four hits in game two as Midland won in five innings.
