HASTINGS, NE. (jimmiepride.com) – The University of Jamestown softball team broke out of its recent offensive slump Saturday, scoring 31 runs on 38 hits in a sweep of Hastings College.
Jamestown won game one 11-6 then took game two by a final of 20-4 in five innings. UJ, now 29-11 overall and 12-6 in the GPAC, return home to host Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) University on Tuesday.
The Jimmies held a 2-0 lead going into the top of the fifth in the opener, then erupted for nine runs in the inning. Kassi Ward (JR/Olympia, Wash.) hit a two-run home run to deep left field, then Sydney Prussia (JR/Detroit Lakes, Minn.) homered to center. Following a Santina Zito (SO/Boise, Idaho) single, Katie Merchant (SO/South Haven, Minn.) smashed a two-run homer to left to make it 7-0. Chickasha, OK. (NewsDakota.com) – The University of Jamestown Jimmies softball team picked up a 2-1 victory over the #2 ranked University of Science and Arts in the first game of a doubleheader.
Junior Kat Miska won her sixth game of the year in the circle as she struck out nine to lead Jamestown to its fifth consecutive win. The run allowed by Miska on the rubber was unearned, and she lowered her ERA to .44 this season.
Jamestown picked up the first run of the game in the third inning when Sydney Prussia led off the frame with a single to right field. After Bemidji native Gracie Fisher bunted her over, sophomore Steph Cota doubled to left to bring in Prussia and put the Jimmies ahead 1-0.
