all right. we re watching the dow at this hour, it is down about 43 points right now. just minutes away from closing. if it closes down, that will be the dow s longest losing streak since 2011. for more, i want to bring in cnbc s dominic chu tracking the markets for us today. dominic, we re hearing it s about uncertainty of a government shutdown. what are you hearing? reporter: eight straight days. a pretty big streak here. we re seeing if he can get a little bit of positive momentum. i should point out earlier on we were down 18 o-some points. we ve gotten a lot of that back. again, like you said, it s going to be about optimism, whether congress, trump, everybody working in washington can get a deal done with regard to everything going forward, perhaps averting a government shutdown. also making progress on tax reform. also making progress on, perhaps, infrastructure spending down the line. there is a sense after the
on the ore e side a legion of border patrol agents, barricades, ground sensors are waiting, even some private citizens working on their own to stop migrants like jesus garcia from getting across. this is the scene in the matrix. reporter: in tome foley s world, the border lands are a threatening, dangerous place. this is what the world really looks like. reporter: he leads a volunteer group called arizona border recon that patrols the border around a town in arizona on the u.s.-mexico border with less than a hundred people. i ve been called everything in the book, a domestic extremist. reporter: the southern poverty law center which monitors hate group in the u.s. says foley s group is made up of, quote, native extremists. he sees the flow of drugs, undocumented migrants and the wide open spaces of the border as the country s biggest threat. along the nearly 2,000-mile u.s./southern border there is already about 700 miles of fencing and barricades already in place. here i
administration has learned from those mistakes? yeah. i think they ve learnedui a bit. i ve been pretty impressed with the way they ve handledhis so far. the biggest mistake, the administration says it themselves, do not negotiate with yourself. make an offer, make an opening offer that gives you a little troom move down the road. and then allow the ore e side to make their counter offer. p administration has been very good. tim geithner did all the sunday show last week and said we condition but the republicans offer on the table for them. they have to tell us what they want and don t want and then we can respond. the problem on the republican side is in their heart of hearts they want entitlements to be cut, want social security cuts, medicare cuts, but they know those are very unpopular so they don t want to put that offer in writing, put it on the table where they can get a lot of criticism. i think the administration has learned don t do that work for them, you know. the idea
