Beginning at 6:30 a.m. Friday, Caltrans will reopen this portion of roadway using a 24/7 signalized traffic control system to provide temporary unrestricted flow with one-way alternating access for vehicles in both directions.
A fundraiser by the Monterey County Hospitality Association to help those affected by the closure of Highway 1 is taking place Tuesday from 5-8 p.m., at the La Playa Hotel in Carmel, and Gilson encourages people to come out in support of the event which specifically is for the purpose of supporting Big Sur workers.

The 73-year-old Fishwife bartender Richard Yarnold is circulating his seventh personal guest book, expanding a collection of sketches, poems and heartfelt stories penned by his Pacific Grove customers. He started the tradition while working at Monterey’s Chart House, creating a simple record of names. It’s since become one more way that Yarnold builds relationships while behind the bar.
