Feasibility of building export-oriented factories in rural areas discussed

2021-04-01 15:24:24 Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Director of the Agency of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SME Agency) Ya.Erdenesaikhan had a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Hungary to Mongolia Borbala Anna Obrusánszky.   At the meeting, the Hungarian Embassy’s advisor on agriculture and foreign trade B.Ankhbayar talked about the feasibility of building export-oriented European standard meat and milk factories in rural areas and proposed cooperating in that effort.   It plans to choose an aimag to build a small factory as a try-out in and use the Hungarian Export-Import Bank as the funding source.   SME Agency Director Ya.Erdenesaikhan showed an interest in cooperating with the Hungarian equivalent of the SME Agency.

Project launched to develop capability of geotechnical and mining professionals

On April 1, Oyu Tolgoi LLC and Rio Tinto in partnership with the Mongolian University of Science and Technology (MUST) launched a joint project to build and develop the capability of geotechnical and mining professionals in Mongolia. Rio Tinto Mongolia and Oyu Tolgoi LLC will provide US$2.75 million in funding for the project, which will run until the end of 2025.  The initiative was officially launched today with a cooperation agreement signed by Kh.Amarjargal, Country Director, of Rio Tinto Mongolia, Armando Torres, Chief Executive Officer of Oyu Tolgoi LLC and B. Ochirbat, President of the Mongolian University of Science and Technology.

Employment creation in agriculture sector to be supported through new project

The Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry (MoFALI) and Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) have signed a new project aimed at creating new employment opportunities for youth in the agribusiness sector. This project is part of the larger European Union funded (EU) technical assistance project “SDG aligned budgeting to transform employment in Mongolia” that will be jointly implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Food and Agriculture Organization, and the International Labour Organization (ILO).  The SDG aligned budgeting project aims to support employment and promotion of decent work and improved public finance management systems through results-oriented budget initiatives as direct contribution to the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals. 

Environment Ministry to cooperate with EU in key areas

2021-04-01 15:12:04 Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Minister of Environemnt and Tourism N.Urtnasan had a virtual meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the European Union to Mongolia Traian Laurentiu Hristea to discuss cooperation.   Ambassador Traian Hristea underscored that the government of Mongolia and the EU plan to cooperate in three key areas of cooperation and that two of them require close cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and Tourism.    Specifically, the Ambassador proposed cooperating in protecting the wilderness, boosting green economy, and increasing the use of environmentally friendly renewable energy.   Minister N.Urtnasan emphasized that the projects and programs implemented by the EU and its members states have contributed to the sector and undertook to provide support at all levels.  

WB donates PPE set under COVID-19 Emergency Response Project

2021-04-01 17:54:39 Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. The World Bank Country Manager Andrei Mikhnev today handed over personal protective equipment (PPE) worth about USD 1 million to the Ministry of Health. The ‘Mongolia COVID-19 Emergency Response and Health System Preparedness’ project, with a total financing of USD 26.9 million, is being realized since April, 2020. The project helps coronavirus infection prevention, community participation, human resource development, and provide medical and laboratory equipment, reagents, and personal protective equipment. The PPE, purchased under the World Bank’s Pandemic Emergency Response Facility Grant, will be used by the public officers at high-risk screening points and health care providers in selected areas.
