This week’s briefing will also include a special presentation by the Executive Director of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency of Nigeria. Dr. Faisal Shuaib will provide updates on Nigeria’s national COVID-19 vaccine roll out strategy.

Background Information
The novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has spread to about 220 countries and territories with more than 141.7 million cases; and claimed the lives of over 3.025 million people globally according to WHO. In Africa, over 4.4 million cases have been reported in all countries, with about 118,000 deaths. There are also over 3.9 million recoveries in Africa.
Africa CDC continue to work with Member States to ensure an effective response to the outbreak by Member States, including maintaining key public health measures which have helped to minimize the rate of infections and deaths in Africa compare to other regions.
Dr Nkengasong will focus on the latest developments surrounding COVID-19 vaccines and the progress of vaccination rollout in AU member states. This week’s briefing will also highlight Africa CDC support to member states in response to the pandemic and provide regular updates on the general COVID-19 situation across the continent.
