KLANG: A pilot and his co-pilot escaped with light injuries after the helicopter they were on crash-landed near West Port Pulau Indah here while performing a hovering manoeuvre – the second accident involving helicopters in recent months. Khairudin Dahlan, 73, and his co-pilot Moithu Kutti Mohamad, 53, were flying the two-seater Robinson R66 Turbine during the incident which caused its tail to snap off. Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis said they received a distress call at around 10am yesterday before a fire engine with seven firemen was dispatched to the scene. He said the aircraft was forced to make a crash-landing in an open area along Jalan PKFZ, West Port Pulau Indah.

Preliminary report on helicopter crash confirms mid-air collision

PETALING JAYA: Preliminary investigations into a crash involving two helicopters in Taman Melawati last month confirmed a mid-air collision did occur. It was also revealed that the two Guimbal Cabri G2 helicopters – registered as 9M-HCA and 9M-HCB – had maintained a distance between 50m and 120m of each other at all times, the Air Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) said in its report. The bureau comes under the Transport Ministry. “But at 11.44am, for reasons still unknown, the helicopters started to converge and collided a few seconds later, ” the report stated. The report also revealed that 9M-HCA passenger Tan Chai Eian, alerted its pilot, ex-MAS group chief executive officer Datuk Ahmad Jauhari Yahya, that the other helicopter was getting closer.
