KLANG: A pilot and his co-pilot escaped with light injuries after the helicopter they were on crash-landed near West Port Pulau Indah here while performing a hovering manoeuvre – the second accident involving helicopters in recent months. Khairudin Dahlan, 73, and his co-pilot Moithu Kutti Mohamad, 53, were flying the two-seater Robinson R66 Turbine during the incident which caused its tail to snap off. Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis said they received a distress call at around 10am yesterday before a fire engine with seven firemen was dispatched to the scene. He said the aircraft was forced to make a crash-landing in an open area along Jalan PKFZ, West Port Pulau Indah.

PELABUHAN KLANG: A Robinson R66 Turbine helicopter that crashed while trying to land in an open area near the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) in Pulau Indah this morning is believed to have been conducting flight training, says South Klang District Police chief ACP Shamsul Amar Ramli. He said the helicopter’s pilot lost control during a hover training session, and the aircraft crashed from a height of about four metres. “Following that, the helicopter overturned and the tail end was pulled out and thrown about 20 meters from the body of the helicopter. “The victims, namely the pilot and passenger aged 73 and 53 respectively, were only slightly injured and received follow-up treatment at the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang,“ he said in a statement here today.
