The conference, which starts on Friday, was postponed a few days before it could sit last month, to the disappointment of delegates who believed they would emerge victorious at the conference.
Despite three false starts since December last year, the Eastern Cape ANC elective conference is finally set to take place. It kicks off with the registration of 1,500 delegates at the Orient Theatre in East London on Friday morning. The conference starts at the East London ICC on Saturday. All delegates are required to present a vaccine certificate or a negative Covid-19 test not older than 72 hours.
The outcome of this weekend’s ANC conference will be keenly watched by supporters of President Cyril Ramaphosa – both for the outcome of the leadership election as well as for a possible push-back from the floor.
