Former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, Manish Sisodia has requested the Delhi court to allow him to withdraw money from his seized bank account to meet his wife s medical and other household expenses. The court has issued a notice to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) who had previously seized the account. CBI opposed bail for accused Arjun Pandey stating his significant role in a transaction worth INR 44 crores.
The excise policy was scrapped in August last year and the Delhi lieutenant governor subsequently recommended a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into alleged irregularities in its formulation and implementation involving government authorities, bureaucrats and liquor traders, among others.
ED claimed that kickbacks were paid by the 'South India' liquor lobby to public servants of the ruling AAP and excise department to achieve the objectives of 'monopoly and cartelisation'.
