WEST PLAINS, Mo. – The 2021-2022 school year is drawing to a close, and what better way to celebrate than watching a free movie! The University/Community Programs (U/CP) Department at Missouri State University-West Plains (MSU-WP) will host its Summer Kick-Off Movie Night May 10 at the West Plains Civic Center theater. The fun begins at 6:30 p.m. when the curtain rises on a classic PG-rated comedy adapted from Hal Roach's "Our Gang" series. This 1994 film features the antics of the bumbling "He Man Woman Hater's Club" as they race through a summer of shenanigans in an effort to win the community go-cart race. Club member Alfalfa finds himself in even greater dire straits when he is forced to choose between his loyalty to the club or his cute girlfriend, Darla. WEST PLAINS, Mo. – A gaming, cosplay and anime convention set for April 22-24 at the West Plains Civic Center will raise money for The Child Advocacy Center in West Plains. A group of staff and students at Missouri State University-West Plains (MSU-WP) invite gaming, comic and anime enthusiasts of all ages to attend Oz-Con (Ozarks Gaming Convention). Those attending can visit with gaming, vendors, authors and celebrities of the industry. This year, voice actors Linda Young, Cynthia Cranz, Erica Schroeder and professional cosplayer Michael Wilson, KnightMage, will be special guests. All proceeds will go directly to The Child Advocacy Center. The Child Advocacy Center's mission is twofold – serving the needs of abused and neglected children in southwest and south-central Missouri and providing education to break abuse cycles and ultimately prevent child abuse in the region.
