West Plains, MO. - Area residents aged 62 and over who would like to take a class at Missouri State University-West Plains (MSU-WP) during the 2023 spring semester can do so under the Senior Citizen Fee Waiver Program. Senior citizens can register beginning at 8 a.m. Friday, Jan. 20, at the registration and records office in Cass Hall, 515 Cass Ave., in West Plains. Spring semester classes begin Jan. 23. To register for classes, senior citizens should be fully admitted to the university as non-degree seeking students and follow the regulations outlined for non-degree seeking students. To apply for admission, visit WP.MissouriState.edu/ApplyNow or stop by the admissions office in Hass-Darr Hall, 201 Garfield Ave., in West Plains. Participants should declare their intent to enroll in the program at the point of admission to have all eligible student fees waived, officials said. WEST PLAINS, Mo. – Missouri State University (MSU) made significant strides at its campuses in West Plains and Springfield during the 2021-2022 academic year, but issues involving enrollment and its impact on the budget will need to be addressed moving forward. Those were the messages given by MSU President Clif Smart and MSU-West Plains (MSU-WP) Chancellor Dennis Lancaster during the annual state of the university address Oct. 7 at Hass-Darr Hall in West Plains. Smart said there was much to celebrate from the past year. The MSU Foundation set a new record in fund raising, collecting over $32 million in donations. More than $1 million of that was earmarked for MSU-WP. A naming gift from Great Southern Bank for the arena will allow the university to fully meet the late John Q. Hammons commitment on the facility. A combination of $50 million in federal funding and $30 million in state funding awarded to the university will allow the Springfield campus to move forward with phase 1 of it
West Plains, MO. - Officials at Missouri State University-West Plains (MSU-WP) are now accepting applications for the Student Services Host Family Program. Implemented in fall 2021, the friendship program helps students become acquainted with the community, supports their experience at MSU-WP and encourages them to take advantage of a wide array of opportunities available in the area by pairing them with host families who can provide a "home away from home." Individuals and families who participate in the program are expected to attend a kickoff event at 6 p.m. Aug. 30 at the Carol Silvey Student Union in Hass-Darr Hall, 201 Garfield Ave., in West Plains. Students will meet their assigned host family and participants will receive training about the program and allowable activities. WEST PLAINS, Mo. – Area veterans and their dependents interested in using their military education benefits to earn a degree from Missouri State University-West Plains (MSU-WP) are invited to attend an informational session May 16-19 in Hass-Darr Hall Room 104. No appointment is necessary. Veterans and dependents are invited to drop by anytime between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. on one of the dates. Each session will be individualized to meet the needs of each dependent. Mark White, coordinator of Veteran Services, said he will be on hand to help veterans navigate the admissions and financial aid process for the 2022 summer session and/or fall semester. This includes assistance with completing the application for admission, filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), choosing a degree program and completing the veteran's educational benefits eligibility forms.
