The agency says it happened on the red line shortly after midnight in the tunnel between Union Station and judiciary square. The contractor was pronounced dead at the hospital. Metro says they believe hydraulic fluid ignited in the area where the welding was taking place but investigators are looking at why all this happened. Investigators are working to explain why a woman who had been stopped by Capitol Police suddenly rushed away as police opened fire.
