Shattering glass from an Office Building near the scene of fridays fire at this construction site in uptown oakland forced residents to shelter in place or leave their homes entirely. Reporter just around the corner from me, eric, on 23rd here at harrison, every five minutes or so you hear this crackling sound as glass comes off the side of this office building. Were barricade out here. Theyve got us blocked off. People are wanting to get back to their cars so they can drive home or get away. They cant. Weve seen a few other folks appear to be evacuated. From the ninth story up to the 15th story in this office tower at 180 grand avenue, glass panels spontaneously popped all afternoon, raining glass onto the sidewalk and cars below on 23rd street. Exposing insulation and wiring. The building is diagonally across from the apartment construction site that roared into an inferno early friday. As many evacuated residents were allowed back into their nearby units last night. Today, even more people appear to be forced out because of the shattering glass. I dont know whos going to pay for everything. Sad thing is reporter this man showed us around his destroyed apartment.
Could get the word at any moment that they need to get out and get out fast. We learned today several bay area Fire Departments are sending trucks and fire crews to the wall fire to help on the fire lines. Across california right now this are approximately 5,000 firefighters. Firefighters put out hot spots in rodeo where a brush fire burned near interstate 80. That fire started yesterday. There is no word on the cause of that fire. Lets head over to meteorologist Rosemary Orozco with a look at the hot conditions. Unrelenting heat out there this afternoon. Temperatures are going above 100 degrees for some of the hottest spots. Heat advisories for portions of the valley all the way from areas near redding down past modesto and it does include the area where firefighters are fighting that fire right now. 17 contained. It is a nice early start if you are getting on the road in solano county, and so far looking pretty good with a little bit of roadwork, but off to a nice start if youre driving from fairfield in vallejo and continuing to the carquinez bridge. If youre driving on the east shore freeway down to the maccarthur maze this commute will take you 17 minutes and traffic is moving along okay with no major issues driving through. Looking at the bay bridge toll plaza traffic is moving along nicely. We have a couple of people in the cash lane lining up but for the most part a nicelooking drive. It is 4 31 am. Firefighters battling the wildfires, hot temperatures and dry conditions across the state and the alamo fire has burned almost 24,000 acres and one structure was destroyed with 100 others being threatened. The fire began thursday afternoon and is 15 contained. Mandatory evacuations have an issue and the red cross has set up a release shelter.
