In an executive session held Monday evening, Mathis city councilors consulted with the city attorney about numerous complaints and allegations of inappropriate behavior by the Mathis police chief and others within the department.
Statements from 11 current and former city employees were sent to Mathis city manager Michael Barrera in March. The written complaints alleged verbal abuse, sexual harassment and evidence stolen for personal use by Chief Marshall Scott Roush.
The first of the statements was put forth by former operations Lt. Brent J. Grundström, who was hired in October 2019. Grunström said he was bothered by conversations three employees had that included comments degrading women and plans to have other employees fired.

It’s a familiar sports adage to take games one at a time. You don’t always hear it from coaches of first-place teams, though.
For East Central coach Eric Vasquez, it’s a truism in District 27-6A. The district is stacked from top to bottom, in baseball and most other sports.
The Hornets (15-5-2, 7-0) were tied with Smithson Valley (19-3, 7-0) for the district lead after defeating Judson 5-1 April 6. East Central took the lead in the bottom of the fifth when two runs scored on passed balls. Ace pitcher Brian Forke shut down the Rockets (4-9, 2-5) the rest of the way.

The yurts at Frame in Hazel Park get decorated differently every time a new chef visits. The decorations reflect the theme of the menu, and the yurts are cozy, warm, and absolutely charming.Frame Courtesy Photo, used with permission.

A unique restaurant concept, Frame in Hazel Park doesn’t have a set menu, only offers on site dining a few days a week, and has a hidden entrance located inside another restaurant. Frame was part of our search for Michigan’s Best Outdoor Dining, and is a place with constantly changing food offerings made by visiting chefs, and super charming yurts outside to enjoy a meal in. It is one of the most interesting dining experiences in metro Detroit right now.
