“And now I can retire,” Randy Anderson, a BNSF locomotive engineer based in Sioux City, Iowa, said recently. “For years I have said that as soon as the bypass is complete, I'm hanging up my boots. The new bypass allows train crews to keep on moving through this area. It's a really good thing and will continue to benefit the railroad and community for years to come.”
In 2017, with assistance from the Mid-Minnesota Development Commission, Kandiyohi County created its first Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan. Now, five years later, Kandiyohi County Public Works wants to update the plan. On Tuesday, the Kandiyohi County Board gave its approval for the update, allowing Public Works to again work with the Mid-Minnesota Development Commission.
The Kandiyohi County Board of Commissioners approved dedicated $473,000 in American Rescue Plan Act funds to various requests, including $150,000 in match funds for a state child care grant and another $150,000 to upgrade the county’s cybersecurity.
Staff from Kandiyohi County Public Works gave several presentations May 4 to the Kandiyohi County Board on the condition of roads in the county and the department's plans to keep them in good condition. In 2022, Public Works plans to do more than $14 million in projects ranging from reconstruction to crack sealing.
