Covid Check: All set? But no PPE kits to crematorium workers

It is said the people working at Hebbal crematorium were shocked when asked to cremate a person who had died of covid, on December 17. They did not have information or directive from the higher authorities about cremation in the case of covid.

A far cry for help

BBMP Animal Husbandry Joint Director had issued a circular on March 31, 2023, stating that three rescue and squad vehicles are available for such activities and these vehicles are placed at ABC Centres at the Veterinary Hospitals at Chamarajpet, Cantonment Veterinary Hospital, and Medi Agrahara, Yelahanka. The circular also gives the vehicle registration number and name and contact number of the driver. But even animal activists are not aware of such a facility. And they have to depend on the Helpline 1962 which also does not have information on rescue and squad vehicles.

Chandrashekar (retd) to shut down its help desks at Somashettihalli, Byalakere, Singanakayanahalli, and Medi Agrahara till May 4. The committee appointed by the Supreme Court had opened the help desks to accept documents from owners who had built buildings on land notified for the formation of the BDA’s Dr K. Shivaram Karanth Layout. Committee member Jayakar Jerome told The Hindu that for the benefit of building owners, they will extend the date for accepting documents, which was initially April 30. “However, building owners can submit their documents online. After closing the centres, a good number of people have started submitting documents online,” said Mr. Jerome.
