An electric crematorium built by the Infosys Foundation in Mangaluru has not been used for the past two years due to a lack of funds for maintenance. The facility, which includes a washroom and electric furnace, was constructed at the request of the Dakshina Kannada district administration.
It is said the people working at Hebbal crematorium were shocked when asked to cremate a person who had died of covid, on December 17. They did not have information or directive from the higher authorities about cremation in the case of covid.
