Medford officials look to designate South Medford as Italian-American Historic District

Neil Zolot / Special to the Medford Transcript Could South Medford receive a historic district designation focusing on its Italian-American heritage? It s something two Medford officials are proposing. City Council President Richard Caraviello and Vice President Adam Knight on April 13 introduced a proposal for the Historic District Commission to study the idea. “South Medford was a very vibrant Italian-American neighborhood,” Knight said. “It’s important we remember the roots of that neighborhood. This is a chance to capitalize on great history in Medford,” that might be documented through educational plaques and storyboards. He noted many Italian-American families moved to the neighborhood from Boston’s North End and “you couldn’t walk through without hearing someone speak fluent Italian.”

The Mustangs certainly wanted to finish strong in its final week, and two competitive games satisfied that, even though they would have preferred the wins. But the fact is, Medford was solid all season long, staying above the .500 mark most of the season, while finishing just one point shy of that mark in its final record.
