Medford romance author Valerie Harris says good storytelling is key to novels

Medford romance author Valerie Harris says good storytelling is key to novels Madison Schulman / medford@wickedlocal.com Valerie Harris knows all about romance. Since 2012, the Medford resident has been a notable romance author, publishing 14 award-winning books. The books, which range from erotic to sweet romance, are published under the pen name Christina James. Harris said she took the name as her children were young when she first started writing, and didn’t want them to be affected in any way. “The cool thing about it is it’s a combination of both my children’s middle names so they could be part of this career that I was building,” said Harris.

Boxford, Middleton, Topsfield schools adapt and persevere in pandemic

Madison Schulman tritown@wickedlocal.com As students return to learning after the holiday season, the Masconomet and Tri-Town School Union districts have mostly remained in a hybrid model of teaching. Looking back on the school year, both superintendents say they are pleased with how teachers and students have risen to the COVID pandemic challenges, but they also know more changes are probably just ahead.  Masconomet Superintendent Dr. Michael Harvey said it’s been an overall challenging school year for the district, noting that teachers and students were never trained in virtual schooling. “I think the staff has done an incredible job in a very short amount of time, you know, putting together a really great program for students,” said Harvey. “But it’s a lot of work. I want to acknowledge it’s really hard.”

Masconomet Environmental Club plants trees to offset school s paper use

Madison Schulman tritown@wickedlocal.com Masconomet High School’s Environmental Club has taken on a new initiative to offset the usage of paper in the school. The club has partnered with Tree-Plenish, an organization that supplies schools a certain number of trees based on the amount of paper consumed in a typical school year. This is the first time they are working with Tree-Plenish on this kind of project.  “I think just as a club we want to give back,” said junior and club officer Caroline Belanger. “We’re using all this paper in our school and all these resources, so I think it’s super important to just give that back so we can protect the environment and be sustainable.”
