As the virus spread across the world, infecting over 100 million people, it had the opportunity to mutate. Not every change was important, but now, several variants are circulating that pose additional challenges to controlling the pandemic. Three variants in particular have sparked concerns: one first found in the U.K., one discovered in South Africa and another that appeared in travelers from Brazil. The variants are referred to as B.1.1.7, B.1.351 and P.1, respectively.
