Applause: Woman thanks those who helped with memorial

The Repository In February, I made a return trip to my hometown of Massillon for the sad passing of my sister, Betty Black Gossage. While I was there, an article appeared in The Massillon Independent regarding updating the walking trail at the Rezzy. When I returned to Florida, I knew I wanted to honor my sister with some kind of memorial. She loved the walking trail. My parents met at the Rezzy in the 1930s swimming, (yes, they swam in it then), and my four siblings and I spent many days ice skating as kids. I contacted Steve Pedro, director of Parks & Recreation, who was in charge of this endeavor at the Rezzy. He gave me great suggestions, recommendations, and offered to plant the tree and the plaque when it was completed. I contacted Moyer s Nursery and Landscaping. Bruce Moyer helped me through the process, and ordered a beautiful Royal Raindrops flowering crabapple tree. Bruce said he would make sure it was the prettiest one, and he did.

Primary reminder: Don t forget to vote

Primary reminder: Don t forget to vote Repository staff report Today is Election Day at least for some Stark County voters. While there are no countywide issues or races on the May 4 primary, there are many local tax issues and a few contested municipal primaries. The issues include proposed levies in Brewster, Massillon, Navarre and Perry Township. There also are contested primaries for Massillon City Council. Polls will open at 6:30 a.m. and close at 7:30 p.m. To confirm you re registered to vote and find out the address of your polling location, go to the Stark County Board of Elections website and click Am I registered?

Primary to decide levies, council candidates on Tuesday

After a high-turnout presidential election in November, a far smaller number of voters are expected to cast ballots in Tuesday s primary in partisan city council contests and on proposed township, village and school tax increases. More than three in four registered voters in Stark County, more than 191,000 people, voted in November. That s almost certainly not going to happen Tuesday. The last non-presidential primary took place in May 2019. The turnout then was less than 15%. Fewer than 36,500 voters cast ballots that year when there were where no countywide levy issues. That s the same situation this year. Where do you vote? Polls at 79 locations in Stark County will open at 6:30 a.m. and close at 7:30 p.m.
