engine through busy traffic to save lives? well, that s the easy part of the job. counting on a annual pension with annual cost of living increases firefighters say is now the hard part of their job. we ve narrowed the window in which to do something, take action if nothing is done between now and july 1 of next year the city is on the hook for $166 million. reporter: how did it get to that point? the fire and police pensions get money from the city, union member contributions and through investments but since 2003 the city hasn t paid its share which is now more than $164 million. firefighters and police officers had continued to make payments of about 6% a year but the funds investments have fallen some $300 million. right now the fund is about $300 million in on visions but $1.7 inle bank. the city has an obligation to pay up, one the mayor says just can t meet. it could be a drastic impact on the budget, where we could eliminate a lot of services. this is not a gam

charitable challenge of the furloughs put the county s human resources department in an awkward position, in an already lean budget year. not something i expected at all. reporter: the director of that department, scott gibson, says the maryland attorney general s review of the complaint suggested the county could withhold judge row s pay guthrie s pay but the administration chose to give him his $132 a day even if it has to make it up elsewhere. they could make the cuts to the cable network, cultural arts board or any agency under his control. reporter: he says the county shouldn t miss the money. basically goes into the coffers of the county whose budget is $900 million. that is so insignificant, you know? you can t even measure it. reporter: he says he s donating it to local charities where it will mean so much more. in harford county, jeff hager, abc2 news. guthrie says he s donating that money to johns hopkins, the lakeview community center in edgewood an

warnings for speed cameras the first 30 days, as jeff hager reports, the grace period will enbefore the cameras are even in place. reporter: at times this wide open stretch of 33rd straight resem as highway, even though the speed limit is 30 miles per hour. what s the speed limit? that s a good question. you can t see my tag, can you? reporter: it s no laughing matter for city transportation leaders who say baltimore s first speed camera here at 33rd street and the alameda produced 400 violations in the first week. one motorist clocked 70 miles per hour along 33rd street. that was surprising, even to police officials. reporter: the surprises don t stop there. abc 2 news has learned that the speed camera at that location is the only operational camera in ten tire city, almost two ex weeks in to the program. the other 50 unveiled by the mayor and police commissioner in front of the glenn mount schools in september remain on hold. we anticipate that as many as anot
