The idea is to come up with ways the Sullivan County school system can keep students enrolled who otherwise might go to online programs outside the system.
They were responding to a question at the Republicans of Kingsport or ROK forum Monday evening about things like critical race theory and transgenderism.
However, the candidates in Sullivan County and Kingsport school board races were almost all opposes and/or could not support Gov. Bill Lee s expansion of a voucher plan using public funds for private education.
The Sullivan County Board of Education voted 6-1 to oppose Gov. Bill Lee s proposal to expand a public vouchers for private schools, a move opposes by the Tennessee School Boards Association.
The deadline is noon Thursday, Dec. 14, for the Sullivan County and Kingsport boards of education races. The primaries are March 5, the general election Aug. 1.
